Kyoto - 27 november 2018 : HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa elevated to the rank of Honorary Doctor of Kyoto Ritsumeikan University in Japan

altOn November 27, 2018 in Kyoto, Japan, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from Ritsumeikan Suzaka University.

During a ceremony on the campus at which university peers were invited, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa expressed all her pride and emotion at receiving this title, which recognizes her outstanding contribution to the promotion of social causes.

HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, has been concerned with environmental issues since Her childhood. As President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, She has launched numerous education programs for sustainable development, for the preservation of the coastline, sustainable tourism, air and climate, historic gardens, the Palm Grove of Marrakech.

This commitment to Education for Sustainable Development, especially among the youngest, helps to train future generations and tomorrow's leaders, able to deploy new solutions and take the necessary decisions to preserve our biosphere.

After this ceremony, HRH visited Ritsumeikan Primary and middle School where the leaders were keen to present their innovative pedagogical approach, knowing Her interest in educating the youngest.

The Ritsumeikan Academy was founded by Prince Saionji Kinmochi, twice Prime Minister under a brilliant Meiji era at the end of the nineteenth century, during which Japan opened to the lights of the world.

Retaking this distant ancestry, the primary school strives to elevate the citizens of the world, to promote openness and to cultivate ethics and individuality. HRH visited these places of knowledge, such as the library of 37,000 books, one of the most important for a primary school in the country, or places of discovery and innovation, such as the robotic room.

Finally, Ritsumeikan University, a poly-disciplinary institution open to the humanities and technology, is itself developing this opening to the world by welcoming, in 2017, 1890 students from 61 different countries. The title of Doctor Honoris Causa of HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa is the opportunity to establish links between the Foundation and the Japanese University in the field of education for sustainable development.
