This edition was marked mainly by auditing 50% of candidates by outside confirmed experts and 80 % filed their online application. Since its launch, Green Key Morocco has 125 establishments certified tourist accommodation.

Launched by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in 2002, Green Key is a label of international importance. With 2,400 certified facilities in 49 countries, it is the largest of its kind in the world. It is supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Tourism Organization (WTO).

In Morocco, where it has been implemented by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection since 2008, the label is awarded in an annual basis, by an independent jury of tourism experts and environmental professionals. The jury is chaired by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection and consists of Ministry of Tourism, Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), National Hotel Industry Federation (FNIH), Secretary of State for Water and Environment, General Directorate of Local Communitie (DGCL), National Office of Potable Water and Electricity (ONEE) and Agency for the Development of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ADEREE).

Through the Green Key label, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, aims to raise awareness among tourism stakeholders on the development of responsible and sustainable tourism as the only sustainable way for tourism in the Kingdom. Through this label, the Foundation offers them a clear approach and a positive support.
