Clean Beaches

With a fabulous coastline bathed by two seas, the mighty Atlantic Ocean to the west
and the suave Mediterranean to the north, whose union has subsided in an unparalleled
maritime encounter in the Strait of Gibraltar, Morocco, and its neighbor Europe.
Endless beaches, interspersed with wild creeks, dunes, cliffs, lagoons, and mangrove,
bear witness to 3,500 kilometers in a succession of extraordinarily diverse ecosystems.
Coveted for its major tourist attractions, this highly fragile coastal heritage
has suffered significant damage to its most urbanized areas. In 1999, the Late King
Hassan II entrusted Princess Lalla Hasnaa with the mission of ensuring the protection
of tourist beaches most vulnerable to human activity.
Operation "Let our beaches smile" was thus born.
The innovative idea is environmental protection is "everybody's business." As such,
a highly collaborative partnership between the Foundation, various local authorities
and businesses is required to support meaningful action and local associations.
In 2001 HM King Mohammed VI, conscious of the formidable challenges of Morocco’s
environmental problems and the priceless ecological heritage which his country is
endowed:
Created a Foundation for Environment Protection and entrusted HRH Princess
Lalla Hasnaa to ensure its destiny by naming her President.
