By 2010, the UN estimates that
80% of the world population will coexist on a 100-kilometer coastline...Morocco
is not immune to the phenomenon of coastalization.
Conscious of being situated at the heart of an acute problem from the 20th century,
the relationship of humans and of the coast, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental
Protection performs monitoring and preservation functions over a vast range of a
3,500 km of coastline.
Led by its President, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, the task of safeguarding
the coastline has mobilized a large part of the Foundation activities.
A veritable conservatory of Morocco’s ecological wealth, this coastal heritage stretches
from the Mediterranean to the North Atlantic to the west.
After nearly ten years since the clean beach, program began, the United Nations Environment
Program (UNEP) presented the title
of Ambassador of the Coast to HRH
Princess Lalla Hasnaa in recognition of commitment to coastal areas. Since
its inception, the Foundation has indeed accumulated actions, programs, projects,
partnerships and conventions.
Our goal is to protect the environmental heritage, including wildlife, flora, landscapes
of dunes and wetlands, and exceptional diversity that is rich, attractive and vulnerable
to human activity.
