WEEC 2013: 7th World Congress on Environmental Education Marrakech in June 2013

Under the royal patronage of HisMajesty King Mohammed VI, and under the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, the Seventh World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC) willbeheldfromJune 9 – 14, 2013 at the Palais des Congres in Marrakech, Morocco.

The First World Environmental Education Congress (1st WEEC) washeld in Espinho, Portugal, from May 20 to 25 2003. The 2nd WEEC took place in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in 2004, September 16 to 18, for improving the network. The 3rd Congress in Torino (Italy) 2005 (3rd WEEC) brings the phase of consolidating the Congresses to an end and paves the way for the series of biennialCongresses to follow. Significantly, the 3rd WEEC in Torino in 2005 occursduring the inaugural year of the World wide Decade of Education for SustainableDevelopment(DESD), proclaimed by the United Nations for the ten-yearperiod of 2005-2014. The Congresses of 2007 in Durban (South Africa), and Montréal (Canada) of 2009, confirm the continuity of the network.

The event, co-organized by the Foundation and Permanent Secretariat of the WEEC will have as leadingtheme:

“Environmental Education in Cities and Rural Areas: SeekingGreaterHarmony.”

Along with the title theme of the congress, variousother arguments relevant to environmental education (dividedinto 11 thematic niches) will be dealt with:
1. PromotingEnvironmental Education and Networking.
2. Intercultural dialogues.
3. Social Movements and building ecologicalsocieties.
4. Communications and the impact of social media.
5. Ecologicaleconomics and green economies.
6. Ethics, Eco philosophy, human-nature relationships.
7. Greeningeducation.
8. Creative impulses: Arts, imagination, and emotionalunderstanding.
9. Pedagogy and learning.
10. Research in environmentaleducation.
11. Risk, health, and environment.
The Foundationwhichisplacing the environmentaleducationat the heart of its missions, invites teachers, academics, scientists as well as educationscholars to register and sharetheirexperiences in order to foster open information and exchange of experiences and take the opportunityoffered by the holding of the congress in Morocco.
