May 21, 2015 : Clean Beaches prepares its 16th campaign – The Foundation organizes a workshop on May 21st «Clean Beaches: Sustainable management of beaches and coastline” of information and awareness for the benefit of its partners.

The Clean Beaches program is a real popular success, with 80 beaches listed today, and a strong growth in attendance of summer visitors. Every summer, around 100 million days-visits are counted on the beaches of the program, including 27 labeled Blue Flag awarded in 2014.

This international label, highly sought after by beaches and summer visitors, has taken a comprehensive view of the beach management, which corresponds to the new approach of the Foundation, extended to the entire coastline.

The Foundation launched in this direction a first evaluation study in 2012, which resulted in the need to develop local skills, which have been defined in a second study launched in 2014 by the Foundation in partnership with the Directorate-General for local authorities.

The development of these skills should, in time, make the coastal local municipalities strengthen the sustainable management of their coastal zone, invest and derive economic and social benefits. To achieve this, the workshop of May 21st offer them new range of management tools (Project Management Manual), good practices in education for sustainable development (collection of educational activities for sustainable development conducted on the beaches), but also to share experiences and best national and international practices, including those of the French coastline Conservatory and the University of Cadiz, both invited to present international best practices and beach management in Europe and South America.
